I graduated in 1989 from a New England school where there was no more than 75 of us K-12 students. I also believe that my education was during the fad of "feeling good" approach. As such, I was never given the opportunity to learn about our Founding Fathers, and all of the documents they have contributed to the society -- all of their thoughts, analysis, justifications, arguments, wisdoms, and understandings on what our lives are all about, and how our unalienable rights must be protected at all cost.
When I was of the college age, I was blessed with my first exposure to the love that a patriotic leader in my church organization has for our country. When I read Ezra Taft Benson's book, called, I think, God, Family, Country: Our Three Great Loyalties, it inspired me to start my journey on understanding what US Constitution is all about. I have tried to read some articles in the various places (including the Federalist papers - and no, I have never gone through more than a page of any of these papers) over the years, but, I have yet to be serious with my study. Some months ago, I read another book by W. Cleon Skousen, entitled The Five Thousand Year Leap. I since then realized that I do need to get serious about my study. So, I started looking for some good sources on line. Somehow, I discovered this Townhall, along with a few other good sites. I have been reading quite a few of the discussions since then. I really appreciate many things that have been said here. For instance, the importance of owning guns was never clear to me until I read a few posts about how the community is only as safe as its citizens.
Anyway, I am not going into the depth on this gun issue or any other rights at this time. I want to start at the bottom, about what our unalienable rights are, and so on, before I get into the work of the US Constitution, from the perspective of a common citizen (meaning I am not a lawyer, so pardon me for any misunderstanding I may have). In order for me to learn, I need to have a journal. I think that this blog would serve well as my journal, as I believe that many of the people are in the similar situations as I, lacking the fundamental basics on why the Founding Fathers wrote the US Constitution as they did, and what are all of those rights. I hope that when I share with you what I am learning, that somehow you would learn, as well. But, please understand that I am only at the beginning of my journey. I may misunderstand a few things along the way, and I may be way off on others. If any one of you ever are reading my blog entries, and you know that I am in the wrong, please do share with me what you do know. i would appreciate greatly for any resources you could provide.
Now, I cannot promise that I will post regularly. It will be difficult with my present situation, as I must pay my attention first to my God, my family of a wonderful and dear wife and 6 children, my community, my business which I just started and finally myself. If you think I am crazy, then i must say I agree. But I really do want to learn about what make this Country wonderful and unique among other countries. Here is my first step. I hope I could take many more in this journey to understand why US Constitution is very important to me individually, and to each of us.
